Welcome to seven days of journaling into the Spirited rhythm of a thriving life.
Come to these pages slowly. Receive a breath. Read each day’s reflection without rushing. Let the words settle before you respond. There is no need to force insight or come up with the “right” answer. Simply show up honestly, pay attention to what stirs in you, and write from that place. Receive this time as gift.
The Spirited Guiding Narrative
As image-bearers of the Divine, we are spirited people—alive by gift, not by striving. We thrive as spirited people by receiving each breath as grace and living awake to the Spirit who inspires and animates all life.
Your breath prayer for these seven days
Inhale: The Spirit of God has made me…
Exhale: …and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Day 1 · Gift
Pause
Begin here: Life is being given. Breath is gift.
Breath prayer
Inhale: The Spirit of God has made me…
Exhale: …and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Reflect · Genesis 2:7
Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being.
God breathes life into dust, and life begins as gift, not achievement.
Journal
- Where in your life do you feel pressure to earn, prove, or manufacture worth?
- What shifts when you remember that life is first a gift?
- What in your life feels especially unearned, entrusted, or given?
Pray
Gracious God, help me receive what I cannot earn.
As a child of God, I am animated by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Day 2 · Breath
Pause
Receive a breath. Notice the movement of breath in your body. You may feel it in your chest, your shoulders, your diaphragm, or your stomach. There is no right place to notice it. Simply pay attention to where breath is rising and falling, and let that be enough.
Breath prayer
Inhale: The Spirit of God has made me…
Exhale: …and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Reflect · Job 33:4
The spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Every breath is grace—ordinary, constant, and holy.
Journal
- When were you last suddenly aware of your breathing—in fear, beauty, grief, prayer, laughter, or relief?
- What did that moment reveal?
- What would change if you received breath not as background, but as gift?
Pray
Breath of Life, slow me down enough to notice the quiet miracle in my chest.
As a child of God, I am animated by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Day 3 · Grace
Pause
Receive three slow breaths. Let each one arrive.
Breath prayer
Inhale: The Spirit of God has made me…
Exhale: …and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Reflect · Acts 17:25
[God] gives to all mortals life and breath…
There is nothing you need to achieve to receive this gift. Even now, breath is being given freely.
Journal
- Where are you tired from striving?
- What in you tightens when you feel you must hold everything together?
- What would it look like to loosen your grip and receive grace today?
Pray
God of grace, where I am striving, return me to trust.
As a child of God, I am animated by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Day 4 · Awake
Pause
Ask: What is coming awake in me?
Breath prayer
Inhale: The Spirit of God has made me…
Exhale: …and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Reflect · Psalm 104:30
When you send forth your spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the ground.
The invitation is not “try harder” but “notice more.”
Journal
- What helps you feel most awake to God, to yourself, and to the life you are actually living?
- What dulls your awareness?
- Where have you been moving too quickly to notice what is already true?
Pray
Awaken me, Spirit of God, to your life within and around me.
As a child of God, I am animated by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Day 5 · Spirit
Pause
Receive a breath and remember: the Spirit is present ahead of your awareness.
Breath prayer
Inhale: The Spirit of God has made me…
Exhale: …and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Reflect · John 20:22
When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”
The Spirit is not reserved for occasional holy moments; the Spirit is a gift we receive and a presence already near.
Journal
- When have you sensed that you were accompanied, sustained, or quietly guided?
- What keeps you from trusting that the Spirit is present even when you feel weary or distracted?
- How might your day change if you believed God was already at work before you noticed?
Pray
Holy Spirit, make me more aware of your nearness in ordinary life.
As a child of God, I am animated by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Day 6 · Animated
Pause
Picture a kite catching the wind.
Breath prayer
Inhale: The Spirit of God has made me…
Exhale: …and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Reflect · Ezekiel 37:9–10
Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.…and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood on their feet.
Like a kite lifted by the wind, we are animated by what we cannot manufacture for ourselves.
Journal
- What has lifted you lately in a way you could not fully explain?
- What brings you alive—and what leaves you agitated rather than animated?
- What is the difference between pressure and inspiration in your life right now?
Pray
Spirit who inspires and animates all life, lift what is flat in me.
As a child of God, I am alive by gift and animated by the Holy Spirit.
Day 7 · Life
Pause
Return to the breath prayer one more time.
Breath prayer
Inhale: The Spirit of God has made me…
Exhale: …and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Reflect · Psalm 150:6
Let everything that breathes praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Spirited living begins at the pace of breath.
Journal
- What have you noticed over these seven days?
- Where do you sense more softness, more steadiness, or more trust?
- What one simple Spirited practice do you want to carry forward?
- Write a one-sentence intention for the coming week: This week, I will…
Pray
Breath of Life, help me live as a spirited person—alive by gift, not by striving.
As a child of God, I am animated by the power of the Holy Spirit.
