Grateful — A Seven-Day Journaling Experience

Welcome to seven days of journaling into the Grateful rhythm of a thriving life.

Come to these pages slowly. Receive a breath. Read each day’s reflection without rushing. Let the words settle before you respond. There is no need to force gratitude or deny what is hard. Simply notice, remember, and give thanks for what is already here. Let remembrance steady you. Let this become a practice of gathering the good.

The Grateful Guiding Narrative

As image-bearers of the Divine, we are grateful people—blessed not only to receive but to be a blessing. We thrive by practicing gratitude as a heartfelt discipline, remembering with joy and thanksgiving that all we have is a gift of grace. As we gather the good, gratitude becomes steadiness.

Your breath prayer for these seven days

Inhale: I will remember…
Exhale: …your wonders of old.

Day 1 · Gift

Pause

Let yourself arrive gently. Notice one gift already present in this day.

Breath prayer

Inhale: I will remember…
Exhale: …your wonders of old.

Reflect · James 1:17

Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above.

Gratitude begins when we learn to recognize life not as entitlement, but as gift.

Journal

  • What is one thing from this past week you are genuinely grateful for?
  • What ordinary gift did you almost miss?
  • What shifts in you when you name life as gift rather than take it for granted?

Pray

Gracious God, open my eyes to the gifts already surrounding me.

As a child of God, I will remember: I am named, claimed, and loved. And because I am blessed, I will be a blessing.

Day 2 · Remembering

Pause

Receive a breath. Let memory become a doorway, not a trap.

Breath prayer

Inhale: I will remember…
Exhale: …your wonders of old.

Reflect · Psalm 77:11–12

I will call to mind the deeds of the LORD; I will remember your wonders of old. I will meditate on all your work, and muse on your mighty deeds.

Remembering is where gratitude often begins. It gathers what has been scattered and brings God’s faithfulness back into view.

Journal

  • What memory still fills you with gratitude when you return to it?
  • What did that memory help you trust again?
  • What would it mean to remember in a way that steadies you today?

Pray

God of faithfulness, help me remember what has held me, carried me, and met me along the way.

As a child of God, I will remember: I am named, claimed, and loved. And because I am blessed, I will be a blessing.

Day 3 · Grace

Pause

Stay here for a moment. Let grace come into focus.

Breath prayer

Inhale: I will remember…
Exhale: …your wonders of old.

Reflect · Lamentations 3:22–23

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.

Gratitude does not deny sorrow. It learns to notice mercy even in the middle of it.

Journal

  • Where have you seen grace meet you in a hard season?
  • What keeps you from noticing mercy when life feels heavy?
  • How has God’s faithfulness shown up in ways you did not expect?

Pray

God of mercy, turn my face toward grace even when life feels frayed or uncertain.

As a child of God, I will remember: I am named, claimed, and loved. And because I am blessed, I will be a blessing.

Day 4 · Thankfulness

Pause

Receive a breath. Let gratitude find its way into words.

Breath prayer

Inhale: I will remember…
Exhale: …your wonders of old.

Reflect · Colossians 3:15

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts… and be thankful.

Gratitude receives the gift. Thankfulness gives it voice.

Journal

  • Who has brought lightness, encouragement, or care into your life recently?
  • What gratitude are you ready to put into words?
  • When has a simple “thank you” deepened connection, meaning, or shared life?

Pray

Gracious God, teach me not only to feel gratitude, but to give thanks.

As a child of God, I will remember: I am named, claimed, and loved. And because I am blessed, I will be a blessing.

Day 5 · Re-membered

Pause

Let yourself be gathered. You do not have to hold yourself together alone.

Breath prayer

Inhale: I will remember…
Exhale: …your wonders of old.

Reflect · Isaiah 43:1

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.

To remember is to be gathered back together. Gratitude steadies us when we live from what is most true.

Journal

  • When you feel frayed, discouraged, or scattered, what helps you remember who you are?
  • What does it mean to you to be named, claimed, and loved by God?
  • How might remembering that truth help gather you back into wholeness?

Pray

Holy One, when I feel scattered, gather me again into the truth of your love.

As a child of God, I will remember: I am named, claimed, and loved. And because I am blessed, I will be a blessing.

Day 6 · Blessing

Pause

Receive a breath. Notice what you have received that might become gift for someone else.

Breath prayer

Inhale: I will remember…
Exhale: …your wonders of old.

Reflect · Genesis 12:2

I will bless you… so that you will be a blessing.

Gratitude does not stop with receiving. It turns outward and becomes blessing.

Journal

  • In what ways have you been blessed lately?
  • Who might need some good from you today—a word, a kindness, a prayer, or a simple act of care?
  • What would it look like for gratitude to become visible in your life this week?

Pray

God of abundance, help me receive with gratitude and give with joy.

As a child of God, I will remember: I am named, claimed, and loved. And because I am blessed, I will be a blessing.

Day 7 · Steadiness

Pause

Receive a breath. Return to this week with gratitude. Notice what has gathered and what has grown steadier.

Breath prayer

Inhale: I will remember…
Exhale: …your wonders of old.

Reflect · Hebrews 10:23

Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful.

As we gather the good, gratitude becomes steadiness—hope that carries weight in hard places.

Journal

  • What have you noticed over these seven days?
  • Where do you sense more steadiness, more trust, or more quiet hope?
  • What one grateful practice do you want to carry into the coming week?
  • Write a one-sentence intention for the week ahead: This week, I will…

Pray

Gracious God, teach me to gather the good until gratitude becomes steadiness and my life becomes a blessing.

As a child of God, I will remember: I am named, claimed, and loved; and because I am blessed, I will be a blessing.
